Functional Food

As I started the diet I was moderately inspired by the recipé section in the book (The Fast 800): it at least showed a good range of tasty looking choices.  As I've suggested however, I don't like wasting time in laborious (or much at all) preparation.  As the days have gone by, I've realised two things:

  1. By the time I eat, at about 10:00am and 5:00pm it's been either 16 hours or about 7 since I ate last.  I'm therefore hungry (though not desperately so).  As a result, almost anything tastes good.
  2. I eat much, much less.
This means that I'm close to guaranteed that there will be enough food around.  In the fridge, on shelves or in the fruit bowl.  It's there due to normal shopping for my wife and son.  And this food will be adequate to sate my appetite.

Also I've come to realise that so long as each meal is about 400 calories and is very low carb, I can eat practically anything in any combination.

For example I have an idea for an experiment some time:

Olive oil is 884 kcals per 100mL.  Okay, so I drink 45mL in the morning and 45mL in the evening - and that's it!  That will supply my calorie requirements.  How will I feel?  I suppose my stomach may feel empty.  But I shouldn't lack energy - relative, that is to my state after eating a normal Very Fast 800 meal.

Stay tuned on that.

In the end though it means that my meal photos may be less appealing.

Simple.  Adequate.

It works for me - so far!

Here's a few:

Cured beef, tomato and cheeses
Smoked salmon and avocado salad

Steak and green beens
Steak, camembert and greens
